Jeremy Irons & Kim Cattrall To Star In WW-I Drama THE TREEHOUSE
Academy Award Winner Jeremy Irons will appear alongside Sex and the City star Kim Cattrall in Lajos Koltai's The Treehouse, a pre World War I story located in Berlin, according to The Hollywood Reporter The film details "the story of a failed student, his glamorous cousin, her mother and the student's father." Maybe it's just me but the film might have sparked more intrigue if it had actually been titled "The Failed Student, his glamorous cousin, her mother and the student's father" in what could have been a knowing homage to Peter Greenaway's brilliantly odd love story "The Cook, The Thief, His Wife and Her Lover." The screen pairing of Irons & Cattrall may seem rather odd especially given that the former is a serious character actor whereas the latter is known largely for light comedic offerings both on film and television. Cattrall impressed many however with her recent performance in Roman Polanski's drama The Ghost, even though her British accent was mocked by some (strange given that she was actually born and raised in England.) It is likely that both British actors will be feigning German accents but talking in the English-language for the film and they will be joined in this cause by co-star Tom Sturridge who appeared in the Richard Curtis comedy The Boat that Rocked and who some may also remember as the young boy from the fun 1996 tv adaptation of Gulliver's Travels. The movie will be produced by German production company Transcorda Filmproduktion, based in Hamburg and by Groundwell Productions located in the UK. The Treehouse is scheduled for a mid 2012 release. Koltai's last movie was the 2007 drama Evening. In the meantime actor Jeremy Irons can be seen in the Kevin Spacey led Margin Call, a politically resonate thriller which revolves around the 24 hour period of a bank undergoing the early stages of a financial crisis. The film recently screened at the Berlin Film Festival and received a rather unflattering review from OWF's Robert Beames.
