Jeremy Renner to co-star withTom Cruise in MISSION IMPOSSIBLE 4

Deadline that the Oscar nominated Jeremy Renner will play Ethan Hunt's sidekick in Mission Impossible 4, which Brad Bird (The Incredibles, The Iron Giant) is gearing up to film in the fall. Our interest level has moved from a 7 to a scorching 8. The idea is that the film will change the series emphasis from being a Tom Cruise starring vehicle and into more of a buddy ensemble. Cruise, we here, is still expected to be back for number 5 at this point, so the new movie is erroneously being described as a reboot by some our peers. It's a slight chance of pace, but this ain't a time-bending alternative reality like Star Trek. It's not even a character going back to his roots like Casino Royale/Batman Begins. Or even a passing of the torch movie, as Cruise will be back. Renner, 39 years old and already an established actor - would be too old for a reboot anyway. A reboot with a young twenty something johnny-come-lately will turn up eventually, but not yet. Cruise and producer J.J. Abrams still have some kick-ass stories to tell for a while yet.
