Jim Broadbent is Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter 6

What took them so long to cast the great supporting actor in this fantasy franchise? Five movies in the can before they decide to cast Broadbent? Shameful!

Jim Broadbent hasn't been cast in Harry Potter already, every other British supporting actor has! Again, my apologies for how ignorant I am over this franchise. I can't help it, I can't just make up that I've read the books, seen the films or that I know anything at all about the young wizard. Dark Horizons have the exclusive scoop that Broadbent has been cast as Horace Slughorn in Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix. I'll let the actor do the work on this one...

He's called Horace Slughorn. He's a retired teacher of magic who's drawn back out of retirement because he's got some secrets they need in the battle against the Deatheaters and he's quite star struck as a teacher and he's drawn back into the fold because he likes to notch up celebrity students, and he's drawn back by Harry. He is quite a comic character, yes. I haven't started yet. I've had endless costume fittings and makeup and ... Tweedy sort of things with a bit of padding. He's an older man, I'm aging up again.
Harry Potter is due to begin filming before the end of the year, after Broadbent has finished his supporting role in The Young Victoria, and also that certain Indiana Jones movie he is currently working on. In Indy, he will be playing the new Marcus Brody type character (but not Brody himself) as he is an Academic friend and colleague who Indy can turn too. Broadbent's one of the best supporting actors we have in the U.K. and there's no doubt that Potter will benefit from his presence greatly. Broadbent has the great ability of making bad dialogue sound great and good dialogue sound amazing but as you people keep telling me, Potter is great so he won't have to worry about the quality of his lines! source - aicn
