Joel Edgerton: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

... And 5 That Sucked

5. Jim Green - The Odd Life Of Timothy Green

There's something annoyingly twee and overly sweet about The Odd Life Of Timothy Green, that gives you the impression of the cinematic equivalent of a sugar-heavy diet - it's a feeling familiar to anyone who's watched their fair share of Disney live action movies. The Odd Life Of Timothy Green is a Disney feel-good movie through and through, telling of a married couple (played by Joel Edgerton and Jennifer Garner) unable to have kids of their own who discover the mysterious boy Timothy on their doorstep one night. Cue a barrage of cliched scenes of small town America, with Edgerton doing his small town dad thing as best he can. This is a performance characterised by "aw shucks!" grinning and shrugging; earnest pep talks which feel saccharine in the extreme; cries of "don't listen to the coach, son! You can do it!" Hardly Edgerton's fault, but not worth putting yourself through unless you really, really must.
