John Woo eyeing some Ninja Gold

john_woo-thumb.jpgWe know that action legend John Woo is shooting The Battle of Red Cliff in his homeland of China right now but word comes from The Hollywood Reporter on what his next project could be. Woo is eyeing up the video game Ninja Gold to produce and direct for Fox Atomic and Lion Rock Productions. I'm not familiar with the game myself but according to the trade it centers around a Ninja warrior who has descended down from an ancient bloodline who is forced to confront the reality of warfare in the modern world. The game's creator Warren Spector also created Deus Ex, Thief: Deadly Shadows and System Shock. Spector said the following...
"The idea actually started with John Woo. He wanted to do something involving traditional ninjas in a modern-day setting, and the idea just resonated with me. I was intrigued with the idea of what happens when the traditional and the contemporary come into conflict. And, to say the least, I was very interested in working with John on a project. I'm just a huge fan."
Woo is said to be in close contact with the game's producers in developing his idea for the film with the hope of putting it into production sometime next year. Sounds like a neat idea for a film but then again so has every John Woo film of the last ten years, only from them to disappoint when he comes round to releasing them. Has anyone seen THE TRAILER for that upcoming John Woo video game Strangehold with Chow-Yun Fat which looks to be an unofficial sequel to his great movie Hard Boiled? The trade mention there are future plans to bring that game to the big screen which is just awesome news. With this and a new Grand Theft Auto on the horizon... I'm so tempted to spend money I don't have on those way to expensive consoles.
