Johnny Depp will take to THE RUM DIARY next!
Johnny Depp's next movie will be his most personal for a while. It looks like he's finally ready to go on THE RUM DIARY, a project he first attached himself to in 2005 and will see him once again play the eccentric writer Hunter S. Thompson on screen. He famously played Thompson in FEAR AND LOATHING IN LAS VEGAS. Bruce Robinson (WITHNAIL & I) is attached to direct. He last helmed the thriller JENNIFER EIGHT in 1992! How do we know it's his next movie? Well The Bad and Ugly have a casting breakdown for Chenault, the lead female role in the movie, which it doesn't take a genius to work out means they will be filming soon... (and P.S. - it says MARCH 2009 START on the notice!)
Start Date: March 2009 SUBMIT JULIE SCHUBERT TEL: XXX-XXX-XXXX -Johnny Depp SEEKING: A beautiful, 25 year old, translucent vision from Connecticut, with a killer smile and a wry, enigmatic personality, she wears barely-there sarongs, sunbathes nude, and oozes sexuality in everything she does. She enchants and mesmerizes Kemp from the moment they meet: while both escaping a tedious, high-end party. Chenault is dating and possibly engaged to Sanderson, but clearly feels an attraction to Kemp. Shes a daredevil who loves to dance and drive fast. She gets into big trouble with a lust-crazed, violent crowd during Carnival in St. Thomas. .. LEAD. This role contains nudity. STORY LINE: 1960: Divorced alcoholic and struggling novelist PAUL KEMP decides to kick around San Juan until his ship comes in, working as a journalist for a daily newspaper thats on its last legs, drinking gallons of rum and experimenting with LSD. With his new friend BOB SALA by his side, he becomes entangled in a corrupt hotel development scheme with a slick PR consultant named SANDERSON, and falls in love with Sandersons unattainable girlfriend, CHENAULT. . .Don't be confused. Paul Kemp is one of Hunter S. Thompson's alter-ego's and the one he will play in the movie. Though somehow Depp is going to need to de-age by some years as he's not 22 anymore. The site claim Kiera Knightley and Scarlett Johansson are the top choices for the female part. But naturally those two names are at the top of the studio wish list for every young female role in Hollywood today. And Knightley's got that PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN connection thing which makes for HUGE BUCKS for any studio exec.
