1. Everyone Is Sick Of Origin Stories
What's the one thing the superhero genre has too much of? Capes? Spandex? Nope... it's origin stories.
Nobody needs to see Batman's parents gunned down again, nor do they want to watch a radioactive spider take a bite out of Peter Parker for the umpteenth time.
Since stories like these have been rammed down our throats more times than we care to mention, the phrase 'origin story' now has a deserved stigma attached in the context of comic book adaptations.
Okay, so Joker is a little different because he isn't a superhero and nobody really knows how he got his scars, but the point still applies - fans would rather see the characters they love fully fleshed out on screen, involved in new and original adventures, not cast back to their formative years.
There are ways a Joker solo film could work, but making it an origin tale is a mistake, not least because Mister J needs a tragic backstory like he needs a hole in the head.
