Joker Review: 9 Ups & 3 Downs

5. It Sets Up Another Movie Perfectly

For all the talk of this being a stand-alone and one entirely cut off from the rest of the Batman universe, it's impossible not to come out of this movie and not want that to be a lie.

Without spoiling it, the road is set for the possibility of future ties and honestly, the idea of Phoenix's Joker reappearing to further explore his gestation and indeed Gotham's, is just irresistible. In an ideal world, there'd be a trilogy of movies starting here, and taking in Matt Reeves' The Batman. That it would even be possible is a pretty heady thing to be able to write.

Let's hope someone can convince everyone involved to make it.
