Jonathan Liebesman tops WB wishlist to helm CLASH OF THE TITANS 2

Jonathan Liebesman tops Warner Bros. wishlist to direct Clash of the Titans 2, says L.A. Times. Liebesman is the former horror director (Darkness Falls, Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning) turned action guy who right now is working on Battle: Los Angeles, a big budget alien invasion movie starring Aaron Eckhart that opens March 2011. There's a fair bit of buzz around the film that takes a Black Hawk Down real-time war perspective on the Independence Day scenario, and it's definitely Liebesman's highest profile picture to date. Last year, Liebesman pitched WB a movie based the Greek legend Odysseus that was greenlit but now with the studio pushing ahead on a Clash sequel for a early 2011 start date, they want to draft him in for this instead. Previous director Louis Leterrier has already said he won't return, and in truth, he has his head in the clouds (he has previously talked about his desire to make a Superman movie, Y: The Last Man & made it known he was the man to direct The Avengers.). One of the reasons for the rush in production is the attachment of Sam Worthington, as he is Hollywood's most in-demand action star and has limited availability (he will film Avatar 2 next year, supposedly) and won't stay attached to a sequel that isn't gathering momentum. The plan with Titans is to film in 3-D, rather than the disaster of post-converted tinkering that completely ruined this year's film.
