Jude Law, Ray Winstone & Christopher Lee join Scorsese's next...

As odd as it may seem, living legend Martin Scorsese has just started production on a 3D film for kids!! The movie is of course The Invention of Hugo Cabaret, based on the illustrated kids book by Brian Selznick. Admittedly, it's taken us a little while to come round to the idea of Marty being sucked into the latest movie-making gimmick; but we aren't bitter and we are impressed by the ensemble cast (though Scorsese's best is still The Departed). The movie tells the story of Hugo, an orphan boy (Asa Butterfield) who lives in the secret walls of a Paris station. When he encounters a broken machine, an eccentric girl (Chloe Moretz), and the cold owner of a toy shop (Ben Kingsley - who plays silent filmmaker George Méliès as a toy shop owner!!!), he is caught up in "a magical, mysterious adventure that could put all of his secrets in jeopardy." Sacha Baron Cohen plays a train inspector. Also cast are Jude Law (was briefly in The Aviator), Ray Winstone (who worked with Marty on The Departed), the legend that is Christopher Lee and three Harry Potter alumni's (Helen McCrory, Frances de la Tour and Richard Griffiths). At the end of the day Marty's no hack and his movies are worth ten of his peers. And honestly, who at this point would doubt him pushing the technology into the next plato, forever changes the expectations of what a 3-D movie could be? According to Awards Daily (via The Playlist), his longtime editor Thelma Schoonmaker recently said;
" looked at 'Avatar' and 'Alice ' and Scorsese didn€™t feel that the 3D he saw was as interesting as in the old ones like 'Dial M for Murder' and 'House of Wax.' He€™s decided he wants to be stronger with 3D to make it jump out at you. He€™s going to go a little bit further with it.€
According to Sony's press release, the film will be shot at London's Shepperton Studios as well as locations in London (outside the studio) and Paris. The movie is aiming for a Christmas 2011 release.
