1. Alien References?

Again, one of the things that Jurassic Park did so well but most of the sequels have missed in their attempts to get bigger and louder is the smaller scale stalker horror spirit. Some of the most compelling sequences in that first movie involved people running away from unseen dinosaurs as they close in, or hiding from them as they're so close it hurts.

That was all very much what made Alien so compelling too, and there are two very smart references to that franchise in the trailer too. That's some smart spiritual cross-marketing.

And not only is there a host of nostalgic references back to Alien, the film is also very good on its self-references. We see the same sort of celebration of the dinosaurs as we did with the first movie, and the whole story of the trailer attempts to remind the audience of that feeling of first seeing the dinosaurs. It's cynical, but it's very clever.
