It doesn't end there, however. From this trailer it's clear that many of the characters are fitting into familiar character types from Jurassic Park: Chris Pratt's Owen Grady is like a cross between Alan Grant and Ian Malcolm, Bryce Dallas Howard as Claire Dearing is a younger (sexier) John Hammond, Vincent D'Onofrio is in the Bob Peck mould etc. Then there's stuff like Jake Johnson's t-shirt, the return of BD Wong's character, and so on. From the looks of this trailer Jurassic World leans a little too heavily on the past of the franchise. Along with all of those smaller shout-outs there's the parallels in plot which are either faithful homage of lazy recycling of ideas, depending on your point of view: the kids are in peril in a car, and there's a brief shot that looks straight out of the raptor kitchen scene from the original Jurassic Park. Hopefully these scenes are the exception rather than the norm for the film, which mostly looks more inventive than any of the Jurassic Park sequels so far. And at the very least, hey, you've got Chris Pratt to look at again.
