Justice League: 10 Dumb Plot Holes That Derailed The Film

8. The Parademons Smell Fear (Except When They Don't)

One of the big conceits of the Justice League revolves around the strange, alien creatures called Parademons, which we're told are attracted to fear. This point is emphasised dramatically in the movie's opening action scene, in which Batman captures a lowly criminal and uses said criminal's fear to lure out a waiting Parademon. The whole scene is silly, but it supposedly serves a purpose.

But this "rule" about Parademons being able to smell fear is relentlessly ignored and abused across the span of the movie, whenever the writers feel like they don't need it to be a thing any longer or can't be bothered to make it work.

Because one of Barry Allen's big personality traits is that he's a bit of a coward, which means that he's scared by everything that's going on around him. For some reason, however, the Parademons never seem to pick up on the Flash's fear because, hey, that would be logical and the Justice League is anything but.

The worst moment comes at the end when Steppenwolf is attacked by his own minions because they can smell his fear. Thing is, the Flash has been there the whole time, noticeably terrified, and yet the Parademons never swarm upon him.
