Justice League: 10 Dumb Plot Holes That Derailed The Film

7. Steppenwolf's Completely Nonsensical Timing

One of the big "Whys?" of the Justice League concerns Steppenwolf's return. Why did he choose to return at this particular point in history? Why did the Mother Boxes decide that now was the time to call for him?

Well, the movie attempts to given an answer to these, but in the process of doing so it actually makes the whole thing a million times more nonsensical. In this case, it would have actually been better to not try to explain anything.

Apparently the Mother Boxes decide to call and awaken Steppenwolf because Superman is dead and it would therefore be easier for the villain to fulfil his destiny. That sort of makes sense, until you realise that pretty much any point in history up until the couple of years Superman has been on Earth would have been far more appropriate. Superman hasn't been on Earth for all that long, remember, and Steppenwolf has been banished for eons. Why choose now?

If anything, the time slot the Mother Boxes selected to call upon Steppenwolf was the worst possible point in history... superheroes have started to awaken, Wonder Woman is active, Batman is prowling the streets. Literally could not have picked a more inappropriate moment for Steppenwolf's return. He had no chance!
