Justice League Final Trailer Reactions - 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Superman Fake-Out

Superman Justice League
Warner Bros.

How ever you feel about the marketing decision to consciously tease Superman's involvement in Justice League (it's been needlessly distracting, at best), the way Warner Bros finally pulled the trigger was inspired.

In the end we got a dream sequence - which will definitely piss people off because it's a loaded gimmick with lots of baggage - that cheekily played with fan expectations, got a big pop and, most impressively, managed to make a Man Of Steel sequel feel even more necessary. There was so much nostalgia loaded into that swelling Zimmer score that it's almost infuriating that we still haven't seen Man Of Steel 2, and seeing Henry Cavill as Clark Kent again confirms he's great.

As psyche-out moments go it was wonderful, and even better, it sold the idea of Lois Lane - and the world's - profound loss. We're going to be invited into a world mourning a hero, but also mourning their own decisions, as war, terrorism and violent crime are on the up in the wake of Superman's death. He's basically been sanctified, and his absence is going to loom large - just as large, in fact, as his return (with its potential darkness).
