One of the biggest problems about the DCCU is the black sheep of the cinematic family: Green Lantern. While we know that we're getting a rebooted Batman and have already been given a new Superman... what to do about Hal Jordan? The 2011 film starring Ryan Reynolds was a tremendous flop, critically and financially, and though it certainly has its fans, DC has to decide whether or not it's worth keeping it in the new cinematic canon. They have three options: keep the film as part of the new continuity, reboot the character, or ditch Hal Jordan for John Stewart, the African-American Green Lantern many will immediately recognize from the Justice League animated series. The first option is perhaps the least likely. It would be smart of WB to pretend that that movie never happened, count their losses, and move on. It's doubtful that they would want that stain on their shiny new cinematic universe. The second option is possible, especially with the right approach. They could take a similar route that Marvel's The Incredible Hulk did, by introducing the character in the middle of his story, after the origin. Mention it, but don't show it to us again, and then move on and try to do a better job the second time around. The third option is perhaps the easiest, and would succeed in helping to introduce a bit of diversity into the superhero genre. Cyborg has already given us the first step, and John Stewart could continue the trend. Plus, he's a great character, who casual audiences may already be familiar with anyway.
