4. The Flash

The Flash's previous outings in the DC Extended Universe have come in the form of brief cameos, in Batman V Superman and Suicide Squad, but we get more of a feel for what he's about in the Justice League trailers.

Young Barry Allen brings the comic relief, with wit as quick as those feet of his, but you can bet the Kansas farm on him having a more significant role than this.

What will happen to him in Justice League? The crucial moment for the Scarlet Speedster will come at the end of the movie, after the League has suffered a bitter defeat at the hands of Steppenwolf, with a little help from his Parademons and the resurrected Superman.

With nothing left to lose, The Flash will run faster than ever before and smash through the time barrier to deliver a warning message to Bruce Wayne in the past, explaining how to get Supes back on side and defeat Steppenwolf.

Armed with Barry Allen's information, the League will have the resources to vanquish their enemies and everything will be sunshine and rainbows... except it won't.

We already know that The Flash's solo movie will be based around the Flashpoint event, which depicts the consequences of meddling with the past. Expect Justice League to lead right into this.

That blood-red sky in the trailer is an omen, and Allen soon realises the victory over Steppenwolf may have come at great cost. Cue mind-bending post-credits sequence.
