Well, it had to be, didn't it? In this world of binaries and extreme judgements, everyone will be mostly concerned whether Justice League is better than the worst the DCEU has offered so far, and thankfully, it sounds like there's a unanimous agreement that it's better than both Batman v Superman and Suicide Squad.

But several reviews actually go as far as to say it has "been conceived, in each and every frame, to correct the sins of Batman v Superman," to borrow Variety's phrasing. "It’s not just a sequel — it’s an act of franchise penance."

The Telegraph review agrees, calling it "a sheepish feature-length retraction of the franchise to date."

But Total Film aren't so sure, suggesting that they've gone too far with Justice League, stripping out identity and leaving something completely forgettable, which crucially struggles to match BvS in terms of ambition at least:

"There’s barely a moment that sticks, not a single sequence to rival the standout superhero set-pieces of recent years. Say what you will about Batman v Superman, but at least it had ambition and vision."
