Karl Urban: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Leonard McCoy - Star Trek

Star Trek Beyond Doc Bones
Paramount Pictures

Bones is one of the most sidelined characters in the Star Trek reboot. In The Original Series, DeForest Kelley was third player alongside Shatner and Nimoy, but despite being there from early on to deform Chris Pine, Urban takes a back seat to the central love-hate relationship of J.J. Abrams reboot.

No matter, because like the rest of the youthful recast, Urban’s great, managing to evoke the original while bringing something a little different. Stern and job-focused, he’s a great presence, and it’s no surprise his role’s bigger in Beyond (where the grumpiness really comes out).

He also gets the best line of the whole reboot series: "dammit man, I’m a doctor not a torpedo technician".
