Karl Urban Gives His Judgement On Sly Stallone's Judge Dredd

Surprisingly he doesn't hate it, though his comments are clearly carefully selected...

Karl Urban has finally given his take on the previous Judge Dredd movie and the performance of his predecessor, Sly Stallone - well, sort of. Speaking at a London press junket, Urban surprised many fans by not actually hating on the 1995 movie - a feeling that is almost uniform amongst 2000 AD/Judge Dredd fans. Anyone expecting Karl's take on the faithfulness (or lack thereof) of the first flick with regards the source material, the fact that Dredd kisses a woman (shock horror) AND takes off his helmet will be disappointed.
"I personally actually found quite handy to look at that film to see what worked and what didn't work," Urban said. "It really helped to inform me, as I was approaching the character, about the choices I wanted to make and choices I didn't want to make."
Perhaps Urban would rather show the world how much better he is on screen rather than by bad mouthing Stallone et al in public, but let's face it - you'd be hard pressed to find anyone out there that would disagree with him! You can watch Urban's carefully selected comments in the interview below; Dredd opens at cinemas on September 7th and quite frankly most of us at What Culture! cannot wait!
