Kerry Washington is Broomhilda in Quentin Tarantino's DJANGO UNCHAINED

She will play the enslaved wife to her Ray co-star's Django (Jamie Foxx) whose mission to free her from plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the catalyst for the movie.

Wow, it's been a long time coming but finally Quentin Tarantino has just secured his first choice for the key role of Broomhilda in his new movie Django Unchained and it's Kerry Washington. She will play the enslaved wife to her Ray co-star's Django (Jamie Foxx) whose mission to free her from plantation owner Calvin Candie (Leonardo DiCaprio) is the catalyst for the movie. Teaching and mentoring Django on his journey to free his wife is an eccentric former German dentist turned bounty hunter played, of course, by the only man it could be, Christoph Waltz. As Broomhilda, the script requires Washington to play a multitude of different ranges from extremely vulnerable, bruised and battered, to strong and sexy/seductive. In the script she gets a whole story arc to herself, one of the few times the focus is away from Django and it€™s wonderful interlude moment. Can€™t wait to see it filmed and Washington is the perfect embodiment of the actress usually found in Quentin€™s movies. The role also requires heavy nudity and in an already controversial movie, certainly the most controversial of Tarantino's career, I imagine it's taken a little while for her to accept the role, though Deadline contend that despite Washington being his first choice, the several months delay in her casting was because the director flirted with finding an unknown for it. In the end he's ended up with the one actress I said would be perfect for Broomhilda after reading the script and when this movie (that begins filming early 2012 we are hearing) is released on Christmas Day 2012, we'll all see exactly why.
