Kiefer Sutherland: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Ben Carson - Mirrors

Presumably a film that was pitched on a whim when somebody thought mirrors had the potential to be scary (though to be fair, it is based on superior Korean horror flick Into the Mirror), Kiefer Sutherland spends most of this terrible horror yarn looking about as lost as his character, Ben Carson, an ex-cop who begins to investigate a series of mirror-related deaths in a department store. Clearly not a natural fit for the material at hand (Kiefer Sutherland as the lead in a horror film? Nah!), his performance feels shoddy, underdeveloped and a bit weird. Oddly, he also - at points - seems to randomly lapse into Jack Bauer mode, shouting things like "Dammit!' in the style of everyone's favourite CTU operative. As a result, there's a sense of the muddled about his Ben Carson; one minute he's fine, the next he's shouting his mouth off and going rogue like he's been inspired by an episode of 24. Granted, there's a funny moment where he points his gun at a nun, but it's not enough to save the movie, because we're not sure that it's supposed to be very funny. Kiefer deserved better than Mirrors... and so did we.
