King Kong Vs. Godzilla: 10 Reasons You Should Be Excited

8. The Spectacle

Giant monster movies are first and foremost spectacles. While character and story are important to a certain degree, you watch them primarily for the monsters and the exhilaration you get from the massive amounts of destruction they cause. Considering this, it should come as no surprise that any anticipation for King Kong vs. Godzilla comes from wanting to see them fight. Looking at the original King Kong vs. Godzilla, it hasn€™t aged gracefully, particularly where Kong is concerned. He looks absolutely terrible in that film; the worst design and execution of the character in the history of his cinematic career. And with 50 years of effects advancement separating the original film from now, as a whole it is fairly quaint by today€™s standards. All this is to say that a new King Kong vs. Godzilla would be on a whole other level in regards to how it can portray the characters and their interactions with each other. The level of spectacle of seeing Godzilla€™s slow-moving and unequaled power go up against Kong€™s quick-witted ferociousness in a major city (something the original didn€™t do) has the potential to be an incredibly delightful and exhilarating experience. Essentially, this modern and long-anticipated rematch has the potential to show its audience sights and sounds they€™ve never seen before. And that€™s something worth getting excited about, regardless of whether the idea of seeing a giant ape fight a giant dinosaur is your cup of tea or not.
