6. A Victim Of The Original's Success

"Egerton is a winning leading man and Vaughn’s action direction remains fantastic, but this movie feels like a victim of its unanticipated success. If the first Kingsman left you going 'Wow!' this one leaves you saying 'Hmm…cool.' And while it doesn’t reach the same hyperbolic heights as the first film, there are certainly worse things than being entertained for two hours." - Nerdist

Few critics have claimed The Golden Circle is a bad film, far from it, though the vast majority felt it didn't blow their Oxfords off to quite the same extent as its predecessor.

Both director Matthew Vaughn and lead actor Taron Egerton have garnered unanimous praise for the second time on the bounce, but it appears the sequel is the victim of the original's surprise success.

The Secret Service arrived on the scene to little fanfare, out-hyped by other comic adaptations bearing Marvel and DC branding, yet it proved one of 2015's surprise hits. The stakes were higher for the sequel, which appears to have fallen marginally short of these lofty heights, despite its admirable attempts to reach them.
