Stanley Kubrick's unrealised holocaust drama
The Aryan Papers, scrapped in the 90's because he believed Steven Spielberg had made the definitive movie on the subject with
Schlinder's List in 1993, could soon be resurrected into a feature film at Warner Bros, according to an article in
The Times. Or could it just be a bit of a nonsense story to attract more visitors to the Edinburgh Festival which is soon to be running an exhibition titled
Unfolding the Aryan Papers (the above image is from a documentary to be screened) which looks at the legacy of material the then reclusive and obsessive researcher had left behind for what ultimately would be an unfulfilled dream. But anyway, it seems WB maintained the rights to the novel
Wartime Lies by Louis Begley (just in case this would happen) upon which Kubrick's holocaust script was based, about a Jewish Polish woman and her nephew fleeing persecution from the Nazi's during the Second World War by pretending to be catholics.
Jan Harlan, Kubrick's half-brother and long time producing partner is pushing for Oscar winning director
Ang Lee to be chosen as the man to adapt Way back when Kubrick came so close to production, he had envisioned
Uma Thurman or
Julia Roberts to play the lead aunt.
