The Last Of Us Movie: 9 Crucial Things They Need To Get Right

1. That Ending

*Spoilers for Last of Us and Left Behind DLC* This is a huge one, and I can only assume that if you're still reading you've completed the game (or are willing to ruin one of the best narrative-climaxes in recent memory). The big question is whether or not Neil Druckmann will write the ending differently for the movie, being that the sudden cut to black after ruminating on Ellie's face is something that MANY audience-goers will undeniably hate. Unless of course, they can truly nail the final expression that says so much, yet also leaves so much up in the air. Depending on what you think was going through Ellie's head (and if you've played Left Behind you're probably more inclined to think she was genuinely accepting of the lie, for the sake of maintaining a connection with someone), Druckmann has actually said that his own 'version' of the ending is Ellie accepting Joel's lie, knowing that she could leave him after having become so much stronger in his company through their ordeal and her accepting of death at the game's climax. The entire point of this ending is the culmination of everything that has gone before, albeit expressed throughout one exchange. Joel lies for the sake of keeping his new 'daughter'-figure, encapsulating the mentality of the game in that the entire zombie apocalypse and Ellie's cure serve entirely to ask a question routed firmly in something we can relate to; would you sacrifice someone you love to save thousands you don't? The ending and lead-up to it is one of Last Of Us' most identifiable features, and one of the first things nearly every player went online to share their thoughts on as the credits rolled, so if there was any scene that needed to be replicated shot-for-shot, it would be this one. So what do you guys think? Who would you cast in the titular roles, and do you even support the idea of a Last of Us movie in the first place?
