The Last Of Us Movie: 9 Crucial Things They Need To Get Right
9. Let The Original Creator Handle The Big Decisions
One of the biggest things currently swinging in the favour of the adaptation is that Creative Director and bearded-genius Neil Druckmann is heading up scriptwriting duties. Naughty Dog fans will know him as the man who helped make Uncharted 2: Among Thieves into the masterpiece it is now regarded as, and the rest of you may have seen his name crop up on Charlie Brooker's rousing morale-booster How Video Games Changed The World. However at the minute he's mostly regarded in the same vein as Gone Home's Steve Gaynor or a less explosion-happy Ken Levine. Druckmann is one to take his time with assessing the necessity of his projects, and when the common question pops up as to whether there will be a Last of Us sequel, he has promptly responded saying that "If there is a story to tell, we will", which is the perfect way of saying "Just let me get on top of this hype-wave and remember my own name, and I'll invent some other people for you". It remains to be seen - and somewhat boggles the mind - what Druckmann will be capable of with an entire crew behind him realising his filmic aspirations, but let's just hope this doesn't tear him away from working on future game titles. As with Steve Gaynor, these 'new-age' auteurs of the gaming medium are integral for the growth of it, putting an emphasis behind narrative and thoroughly justified action and violence, the recognition of which puts gaming in a much more positive standing worldwide.
