Liam Neeson: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

1. Oskar Schindler - Schindler's List (1993)

As Oskar Schindler Neeson is flawless. Well, the character is perfectly flawed, but the performance couldn't be further from. Those chills you get when you realise Schindler was a real life person last throughout the film because of Neeson's top notch performance. He's charming and dangerous and certainly not Superman, but he's definitely as real as real can get. The film is in no way manipulative, but every time Neeson is on screen it's electricity, but when he stands up there and speaks to the workers he's helped save and his emotions break perfectly, it's hard not to break with him. You manage to hold it together just as Neeson's Schindler seems to hold it together. But when you realize that he's human too, that he's just as capable of weakness or defeat, sadness and second guessing as a normal person, the tears come rushing. Neeson gave a performance teetering on the edge for nearly three hours. He never blubbered or whined, cried incessantly or sniveled. He stood tall and did what only a master can do. He broke only when it was right, and he brought us with him every single step of the way. To be included in a film so visceral as this, to feel as if we were part of it, certainly does take a lot out of the viewer. But having Neeson as our guiding light certainly makes it a little easier to bear.
