Life: 7 Reasons It Should've Been A Secret Venom Origin Story

6. It Handles The Character's Origin, In A Unique Way

For a moment, let's pretend that Life is in fact a Venom origin movie.

This would free up the recently-announced Venom spinoff to jump right into the meat of the story, since it wouldn't have to spend time on any setup - like showing how the alien symbiote ends up on Earth.

Plus, Life handles the character's origin in a unique way. It's not directly ripped from the comics so it's more unpredictable, and is less about quickly introducing the character and more about building an interesting one.

Next year's movie would probably have started with Venom landing on Earth, the same thing we saw in Spider-Man 3. That would be serviceable, but it would also be boring, and déjà-vu inducing. Think of Life as an extended opening sequence, one that punches you in the gut and ensures the movie that follows is built on the best possible foundations.

And by the end of Life, the essential part of Venom's origin is still reached; the symbiote ends up on Earth, ready to bond with a host. It's just that this movie reaches that destination in a much more thrilling manner than a by-the-numbers origin - one that Venom's spinoff may indulge in - ever could.
