Life Of The Party Review: 2 Ups & 7 Downs

3. It (Mostly) Wastes A Talented Supporting Cast

Life Of The Party Gillian Jacobs
Warner Bros.

Say what you want about this movie, but holy hell, does it have a talented supporting cast or what? Here's just a sampling of some of the beloved names roped into this mess: Gillian Jacobs, Maya Rudolph, Julie Bowen, Matt Walsh, Jacki Weaver and Stephen Root.

For the most part, these performers aren't given much to do, most bizarrely of all Jacobs, who plays a student who spent 8 years in a coma and is now a social media superstar...because reasons. Jacobs' peculiar performance suggests even she wasn't sure how to play the character or make sense of the script.

Though each actor maybe gets a moment or two to shine, it's easy to believe these were generally improvised moments rather than the word as written. What a waste.
