As Captain James Tiberius Kirk frequently hinted at, ventures into the orbital unknown often concern the theme of exploration; "to boldly go where no man has gone before". Richard Branson's high-flying tourist spectacle aside, the most noteworthy spaceship proposals have almost exclusively concerned discovery. As such, space voyages are arguably situated at the pinnacle of humanity's greatest accomplishments. Indeed, if it hadn't been for space travel, the aforementioned Captain Kirk might never have come to be. If that had been the case, Sci-Fi fans could full well have missed out on subsequent classics such as
Star Wars,
Stargate,
Battlestar Galactica or any space opera entitled 'star-' for that matter. Fortunately, this was never the case and, with the success of the most recent Mars rover landing, it seems that our interest in space has only been further incited. In light of the recent Mars rover landing, this list is dedicated to 10 films that were set on or concerned Mars.
10. Santa Claus Conquers the Martians
For those of you who are familiar with St Nick's infamous near fatal escapade with the Martians, you will know exactly how credible its worth is amongst the film community. For those of you who are oblivious to its existence, my sincerest apologies; it pains me to spread this film's awareness. I'll keep it brief: this film is rightly considered the worst film of all time; it is total rubbish. The story centres around the unlikely and moronic tale of the Martian race abducting and detaining Father Christmas. After 81 tiresome and tedious minutes, the day is saved by, as the title suggests, by Santa opening several cans of unfestive whoop-ass. Do not let the whimsical title draw you in, for it will disappoint; moreover it is guaranteed to offend and infuriate.
