Lightyear Review: 6 Ups & 4 Downs

1. The Strong Supporting Cast

Lightyear 2022
Pixar

Though Chris Evans and Peter Sohn are the sure highlights among the cast, everyone brings something worthwhile to the table here.

Most recognisably we have Taika Waititi as Morrison, the wet-around-the-ears member of Buzz's impromptu team, but the heart and the soul of the story is really shared between Uzo Aduba and Keke Palmer, playing Buzz's Space Ranger pal Alisha Hawthorne and her granddaughter Izzy respectively.

Elsewhere Isiah Whitlock Jr.'s distinctive vocals should give fans of The Wire a chuckle when he appears briefly as the surly Commander Burnside, and James Brolin is perfectly cast as Zurg, no matter the issues fans might have with the character's direction in the film.

Pixar admittedly rarely puts a foot wrong with their voice casting choices, and while Lightyear's script is hardly great, the cast does the absolute best possible with what they've got.
