Lionsgate & Marvel make deals with WGA
Talks are still on going with the WGA and AMPTP in hopes of ending the current strike action well before the Oscar ceremony in four weeks time but whilst an agreement has still yet to be reached... Variety are reporting that both Lionsgate and Marvel Entertainment are the latest companies to successfully hatch a deal allowing their writers to return to work.
For comic book fans, the deal with Marvel Entertainment is fantastic as it means work can once again begin on their future movies THE AVENGERS, CAPTAIN AMERICA, THOR, and ANT-MAN... but of course not their already big franchises SPIDER-MAN and FANTASTIC FOUR as they aren't owned by the studio and are in the hands of the big studio's For Lionsgate presumably, work can once again begin on SAW V and the sci-fi adaptation of ATLAS SHRUGGED, though both projects may have been turned in before the strike and may even have been in a condition the studio was happy to begin pre-production. Wouldn't surprise me if the strike is concluded by the end of the month. With that deal the DGA reached with the AMPTP, I think that really got things in motion for these discussions and further talks to try and come to some kind of comprise which would allow everyone to go back to work, and get back to simply making movies.
