Logan: 15 Most Brutal Moments That Earned Its R-Rating

13. Mother Nature Bites Back

By the end of the film - despite a brief berserker rage for respite - Logan is a dying man. He's the image of the battered gunslinger, riding towards certain death but honour and sanctuary for those he protects. But that doesn't mean he's allowed to slip off quietly in his sleep after killing his enemies as you might poetically expect.

That would have been a disservice to the nature of the character, which also doesn't make watching X-24 pick his broken body up after a terrifying beating to kill him any easier. Nor does it ease the visceral pain of seeing him pile-drived onto a waiting tree stump, precisely aimed for maximum internal injuries without the assistance of his built in bone armour.

It's a sickening final stand for Wolverine, but it absolutely sells the threat of X-24. Most devastatingly it also proves the catalyst for X-23 to do what Logan has tried to stop her doing the entire film: when she kills the murderous clone, she becomes no better than the image she's gradually moved away from the entire film.
