Even with some rumours that there was going to be another Wolverine clone before release, the revelation that Transigen also created X-24 as an improved weapon landed like a sledge-hammer. Once more, Hollywood proved that de-ageing technology doesn't have to look a travesty and we got to see a brief performance of Wolverine in his purest, most animalistic form.

And the jaw-dropping reveal worked perfectly in building to Xavier's horribly heart-breaking death. That twist genuinely inspired gasps as Professor X waxed lyrical about how perfect their evening had been, and it was a reaction that was utterly earned. His reveal was a masterclass in bait and switch, pure and simple, and even if what followed was a little silly, that entrance moment was one of the best in the entire film.
