Logan: 7 Ways It Sets Up A Sequel

This may be Hugh Jackman's final outing, but there's no way Fox are letting go of Wolverine.

The end credits have rolled, the blood and tears have started to dry.

Logan will go down as, at the very least, the best entry into the X-Men movie franchise, and arguably one of the greatest comic book movies (though the term doesn't quite feel appropriate) ever made.

Hugh Jackman and Patrick Stewart both give their best performances yet as Logan and Charles Xavier respectively, and if this really is the last time we see either of them in the series (and it absolutely should be) then it's an incredibly fitting final bow. The movie is a ferocious work of art, although because of that not one that makes you want to revisit it anytime soon.

Given that definitive end, though, where do things go next? Because even if Jackman is truly done, Fox almost certainly won't be, given the critical and (more importantly) box office success of the movie.

Logan is correctly billed as Wolverine's last stand, but that doesn't mean the franchise, the character beyond Jackman, nor this timeline won't continue to be explored. While it's mostly centred on providing a suitable epitaph, there's a fair bit in Logan that could be considered setup for further adventures - or at least worked into one.

7. Mr Sinister

After X-Men: Apocalypse dropped a couple of major hints towards the character, it was expected that Mr Sinister would turn up in Logan, uncovered as the shadowy figure behind it all.

Alas no such reveal was forthcoming, with Ricard E. Grant's Dr Rice the overarching villain, and given the tone of the movie you can see why Sinister was left out (something director James Mangold did clear up before release).

Still, you'd expect those hints have to go somewhere, and since Mr Sinister didn't appear in Logan it means he is (probably) out there somewhere. EssexCorp may not have been the company behind cloning here, unless Alkali Transgien is a diversion from the bigger name behind it (which admittedly seems unlikely), but given what happened in Apocalypse it should be turning up somewhere, meaning there's a good chance we'll see both Mr Sinister and more mutant clones.
