Lord Of The Rings: 10 Things Only TRUE Fans Understand
9. The Rings Of Power Were Sauron's Idea
In the LOTR film, it is stated in the introduction that 20 Rings of Power were forged; three for the Elves, seven for the Dwarves, nine for Men, and one ring for Sauron. Aragorn explains to Frodo that Sauron helped forge the Men's rings, which is how we was able to turn them into his slaves.
However, the film leaves out a crucial detail; it was Sauron's idea to forge all The Rings of Power. Disguised as as Annatar the Lord of Gifts, Sauron convinced 19 respected figures to protect themselves with magical rings.
After these rings were crafted, Sauron would tie them to his dark magic, forcing Middle-Earth's leaders to be under his influence.
Because the Elves only trust their own kind, they forged their rings themselves and harnessed them so they would prevent the wielders from being corrupted. Since Sauron didn't have a hand in crafting the Elves' rings, he couldn't control them. However, he was successful at using his own rings to turn Men to evil and Dwarves to greed.
When Sauron was destroyed, The Rings of Power lost their magical properties, eradicating evil in Men and avarice in Dwarves.
