Lord Of The Rings & Hobbit: 12 BIGGEST Mistakes We Have To Live With

5. That Hobbit Love Triangle

This was yet another thing that should've been dropped from The Hobbit. The love triangle between Tauriel (Evangeline Lilly), Legolas and Kili (Aidan Turner) was pretty awful, even though all three of them are good, well-played characters.

Tauriel and Kili's romance felt entirely unbelievable since they barely knew each other and neither Kili nor Legolas had nearly enough chemistry with Tauriel. As a result, this subplot really was dead on arrival.

As well as this, Kili's death was a miscalculation. Tauriel was definitely a character people cared about more and many inevitably wondered where she'd been in the LOTR films, so she should've died instead of Kili. That would've been far more powerful and would've felt less mean-spirited and pointless than Kili's death ultimately did.

Overall, this was one terrible movie romance and not nearly as good as Aragorn and Arwen's effective, touching love story in the first trilogy.
