Lord Of The Rings & The Hobbit: Every Major Death RANKED
3. Sauron - Return Of The King
There is no death in the series that feels more impactful and cathartic than the final ending to the leading antagonist of the trilogy. The threat of Sauron has been ever-present within the films, and it truly felt like he was a force too evil to defeat. However, the final sequence that shows the Ring burn and the tower of Barad-Dur fall is breath-taking.
Firstly, the film takes it's time with the build-up, almost making you think the ring isn't going to be destroyed, despite being dropped into mount doom. However, the connection between Sam and Frodo - which is the true heart of the story - overpowers the evil of this place.
As Frodo reaches out to Sam and the two escape together, the ring finally burns, and the journey the duo have gone on is finally at an end.
Sauron's tower crumbles, and our heroes all over cheer and rejoice at the destruction of this repulsive force of evil. It is the perfect ending to this antagonist and shows how even the smallest creature can be capable of great things.
