Lord Of The Rings & The Hobbit: Every Major Death RANKED

1. Boromir - Fellowship Of The Ring

Haldir lord of the rings
New Line Cinema

The demise of Boromir is not just the best death scene in the saga of Middle-Earth but is also one of the best in film and TV altogether. Sean Bean may be an actor known for dying in almost every project he's been a part of, but this still ranks as his best.

Boromir by this point in Fellowship of the Ring had shown how corruptible men are, and attempted to steal the ring from Frodo, which resulted in the protagonist leaving to journey on his own. Boromir is responsible for the disbanding of the fellowship and as such, needed to do a lot to redeem himself.

His final moments do just this, as he bravely fights against the tide of Uruks who are attempting to steal Merry and Pippin. Allowing himself to die for such small and insignificant creatures shows the depths of regret he has and the change that has occurred for him.

The slow-motion used to display each arrow piercing him makes them visceral, and you can understand the pain and impact they cause. Finally, the moment between him and Aragorn is beautiful, as he finally lays to rest and makes his respect for the future King clear.

It's beautiful and heartfelt, and easily the series' best.
