Mad Max: Fury Road - 10 Reasons Critics Are Calling It A Masterpiece
10. The Breathtaking Action Sequences
"An awe-inspiring display of action storytelling..." - Mark Hughes, Forbes "... a stone-cold action master class..." - Drew McWeeney, HitFix "George Miller pours his heart and soul into some truly visionary and gonzo sequences of vehicular carnage." - Tim Grierson, Screen International
Where to start, then? How about with the movie's gorgeous, creatively-rendered and frankly breathtaking action scenes, which are reported to be some of the most vivid and nail-biting action sequences to have graced cinema screens since... well, ever. Not to mention that they are stunningly shot - as critic Eric Kohn writes - in the style of "a kinetic tone poem." Much of the stuntwork glimpsed in Fury Road was achieved practically, of course, which means that George Miller's fourth Mad Max venture embraces a sense of realism; there's no weightlessness to the action scenes in this picture, as is often the case (a result of too much reliance on CGI) - metal cracks, shreds and explodes... and for the most part, it's all real.
