Bravo to DC and Warner Brothers; despite the mixed critical reception of their recent superhero epic,
Man of Steel, it has undoubtedly been a box office success and work on a sequel is already occurring. One of the major talking points right now is who the villain is going to be in the sequel. Lex Luthor was of course alluded to in the first film, with LuthorCorp logos appearing here, there and everywhere. However, many fans believe that having Luthor (or at least
only having Luthor) would be something of an anti-climax after Zod and company - especially given that Gene Hackman and Kevin Spacey have already portrayed the character in previous
Superman outings. There's also talk of other obvious villain ideas; The evil lord of Apokolips, Darkseid, seems to be the one most people want to see. Doomsday has been mentioned. Brainiac is a name that's been thrown around. But what about if DC and Warner Brothers were to throw a curveball and use a villain (or villains) of lesser renown? Whether they were to include such a foe on their own or alongside a Luthor or a Darkseid, it would be risky, but it would surely go down well with true comic book fans to see a bit of originality on the big screen.
