2. It's Low Risk, High Reward
Now that
Man of Steel is a blockbuster sensation, it will only increase demand for a straight sequel. Walking out of the theater, I knew I couldn't wait to see what they do with Kal-El in part two. As a fan of the Superman reboot, I'm more interested in
Man of Steel 2 than anything else. The box office returns for
Man of Steel make this an easy project to green light. It's a textbook definition of "low risk, high reward" meaning that it will make a boatload of profits during its theatrical run. The people have responded very well to this new take on the character and I know I'm not alone in wanting to see the sequel as soon as possible. Superman has been a pop culture icon for decades and his movies are always easy sells. As WB develops their "riskier" properties like Wonder Woman and Flash,
Man of Steel 2 could be used to continue Kal-El's story and give the people what they want. A sequel to the popular film could also introduce new elements of a shared DC universe (again, if the studio is doing that) and begin to familiarize moviegoers with the larger world. Since
Man of Steel had none of this, it's important to do that in a future movie. It's a win-win for everybody involved.
