Man Of Steel 2: 5 Things That Would Make The Sequel Soar

1. Lex Luthor

lex luthor A criticism of the film is to whether or not Goyer, Snyder et al have "shot their load" in utilising General Zod right off the bat, and that maybe they could have gone the Batman route and used secondary villainy for the opening salvo. But such is the brilliance of Michael Shannon's performance, it's hard to look beyond him. That said, in the same way Nolan and Heath Ledger did so magnificently in The Dark Knight, its time to not only pull out the big dog, but reveal him in a new, realistic way. The fear is that Luthor returns true to form: hungry for real-estate and on the hunt for Kryponite. It's too easy, too simple for an audience now begging for more thoughtful, challenging villains a la Joker, Bane, The Mandarin or even Khan: we want to see out heroes pushed to the very edge, and see how they come back. The challenge is both trying not to be repetitive, and having the hero a indestructible man through his heart? With Kryptonite? Destroying Earth again? If anyone can pull of a realistic reinvention of Lex Luthor, it's Goyer and Nolan, but it won't be easy.
