Man Of Steel: 5 Reasons It'll Rule This Summer

1. The S Means Hope

Man Of Steel2 There is no other superhero that inspires hope quite like Superman. In the dialogue between Superman and Lois Lane at the end of the latest trailer, Lois asks what the S on Superman's suit stands for, and the immaculately haired hero responds that it isn't an S, and that it stands for hope where he is from. In one easy exchange, Nolan and Goyer have captured exactly why the age of the superhero is so high in the ascendancy. Whether in comic books or in film, Superman represents hope in a way unlike any other superhero. He is an enduring symbol, patriotic and honourable, and unblemished like other typically flawed superheroes like Tony Stark and Bruce Wayne. He is a beacon, and though the film promises a portrayal before that point in his arc, we will see the rise of the symbol, and the character taking his mantle. In the trailers for Man of Steel, Jonathan Kent tells Clark that once he decides what kind of man he wants to be, he will change the world. A portion of Jor-El's dialogue in reference to his son is that in time Superman will help the people of Earth accomplish wonders. The statements from his biological and adoptive father in the trailers sum up the kind of hero Superman is, and the reason he is such an enduring character.
