man of steel The superhero movie genre has been graced with a number of excellent performances from actors in villainous roles. There was Tom Hiddleston€™s Loki in Thor and The Avengers, Tom Hardy€™s Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, and the greatest of all, Heath Ledger€™s Joker in The Dark Knight. As General Zod, Michael Shannon violently shoves his way into a seat at that same table. Shannon€™s Zod is the most intimidating villain the genre has ever produced. His threats are promises. He keeps every promise he makes, except those guaranteeing peace. General Zod is vile and unstoppable with a drive that constantly propels him to carry out his mission and purpose. Michael Shannon brings an unwavering intensity to the role. He is so committed to his character€™s ferocity that moments having the potential of being over-the-top end up feeling completely believable. General Zod is fearsome because Michael Shannon is fearless.
