Marc Forster To Direct Disney's Time Travel Blockbuster THE RUNNER

Deadline reports that Disney are positioning Quantum of Solace director Marc Forster to helm The Runner, a futuristic time travel pitch they just bought from Dave Andron (Knightrider reboot, Justified) that they hope to turn into a lucrative, multi-platform franchise. Conceived by Andron, The Runner would be set in a post-apocalyptic 2027 (and it's setup at Disney?!?) where The Earth;
"has been rendered uninhabitable due to a devastating attack. A group of survivors living in the Rocky Mountains have discovered a way to send a man back in time. While the volunteer departs under the guise of trying to stop the devastating attack, he has an ulterior motive: to save the love of his life.€
So I suppose it's a reverse version of H.G. Wells' The Time Machine with a little bit of Quantum Leap thrown in there for good measure. Though there's at least a dozen movies like this, so don't bother suggesting them. It still sounds fun but then Disney say they are hoping to produce a gigantic array of merchandise from games you can play on your phone, video games, graphic novels and even a t.v. series set around the universe, which kind of sours things a little. But that is the nature of the beast these days, is it not? Brian Grazer, producer behind The Dark Tower adaptation at Universal that will be both a film franchise & t.v. series, is also behind this one, which accounts for some of that above. Disney and writer Andron only have a small treatment so far, so the next task will be for a full screenplay to scribed. Meanwhile, Forster is gearing up to direct Machine Gun Preacher with Gerard Butler later this year and then he's still got World War Z with Brad Pitt that he wants to make, so this one could be a long while off if Forster does indeed end up directing.
