Margot Robbie Says Harley Quinn Is The Best Character In Suicide Squad
Talk about stating the obvious.
Through the various trailers we've had for Suicide Squad so far, one thing has been abundantly clear: Margot Robbie's Harley Quinn looks absolutely awesome.
Robbie's Quinn has been the undoubted scene-stealer so far, no easy feat when she's appearing in the movie alongside the often-dominating (for better or worse) Will Smith and the condom-gifting Jared Leto. In fact, there's been near-unanimous praise for her casting, a rarity in superhero (or supervillain) movies. Now the actress has confirmed what we were all thinking, telling Oyster magazine:
For the first time, I thought that I had the best character in the movie. I wouldnt trade my character in Suicide Squad for anyone elses."
It's hard to disagree there. Robbie also reveals that she was offered the role before there was even a script to read, and that Warner Bros. jumped in quickly to land her, as she was about to start on another film.
During the interview she also spoke about creating the laugh for Harley Quinn, and how important she felt it was to get right, saying:
"I have a horrible laugh. I sound like a crow protecting its young. Then you meet those girls who laugh like, 'A-ha-ha-ha!' and you're like, 'F**k you. Let loose. Give us a real laugh.' But my friends would always say, when they would watch one of my movies or whatever, 'I was watching it and I honestly didn't see you. It wasn't you. I was totally in it. And then you laughed and I was like, 'Oh, it's Margot, that's right.' And I was like, 'Shoot, I've really gotta work on that. I've gotta come up with a different laugh for each character because it'll take people out of it for a minute.'"
That's going to be interesting to hear, especially in a film when we've already got the Joker. The Aussie actress also mentioned how big a fan she's become of the comics (they're "rad"), and how she might be even more excited than we are for the movie coming out:
"I'm not even going to pretend to play it cool. I am dying to see it...I think it's going to be so cool, and I just love that there's a chick character who's that badass, and who's actually, like funnier and crazier and stronger than some of the males."
You and me both, Margot.
Suicide Squad is set for release on August 5, 2016.
