Mark Strong: 5 Awesome Performances And 5 That Sucked

2. Sinestro - Green Lantern

Strong plays a more ambiguous character here in Sinestro, the mentor of Hal Jordan aka Green Lantern, who eventually goes on to become a supervillain (as hinted at in the film's epilogue). To be fair to the actor, he had at least done his homework, coming across as very knowledgeable about the mythos, and the fact that Sinestro was modeled after David Niven, but that doesn't mean a whole lot with a script this thin and the film's generally horrible aesthetic. The major mistake? Giving everybody damn CGI clothing. While there's a certain style that the film has to adhere to, the colour palette is ugly and drab, making Sinestro appear more comical and ridiculous than believable as both a guardian and, at the very end, a possible bad guy. Ludicrous. Not even Strong's screen presence can overcome that sort of shoddy work.
