3. The Incredible Cast

Once upon a time, superhero movies were considered throwaway spectacle, pay-check movies for B-list stars and dumping grounds for actors who were desperately trying to stay relevant.

Nowadays, things are quite different - landing a part in one of these things usually comes with a meaty role to sink your teeth into rather than forced, hammy dialogue and cheesy, laughable plots, a far cry from the Fantastic Four and Catwoman days.

And that means we only get the very best performers in these productions, and Doctor Strange is no different. The proof is in the pudding - Oscar-nominees Benedict Cumberbatch, Rachel McAdams and Chiwetel Ejiofor alongside Oscar-winner Tilda Swinton and the menacing, ever-reliable Mads Mikkelsen - it's no stretch to call them some of the very best actors working today.

There are other benefits here too, besides simple star-power. We need top-notch actors to effectively sell the dramatic moments alongside the more fantastical elements, else all the stakes, tension and suspense gets lost amidst the spectacle. And fortunately, the cast of Doctor Strange - based on its pedigree - seems more than equipped to deliver us a superhero movie that has a heart to complement the action.

Danny has been with WhatCulture for almost nine years, and is currently Doctor Who Editor and WhoCulture Channel Manager, overseeing all of WhatCulture's Whoniverse coverage. He has been writing and video editing for 10+ years, and first got a taste for content creation after making his own Doctor Who trailers and uploading them to YouTube (they're admittedly a bit rusty by today's standards). If you need someone to recite every Doctor Who episode in order or to tell you about the making of 1988's Remembrance of the Daleks, Danny is the person to ask.
